The path is steep, very steep and it gets steeper the higher up you go until the final section is lung-busting for some even the fittest young residents. The Zig Zag is a local landmark in its own right and it winds through the steep wooded eastern side of the lower Garth where once, not so long ago, coal mines drifted sideways into the mountain.
