Tongwynlais - ''Castell Coch in Fforest Fawr''
Medium: Oil on Canvas Ref: KWA53/OOC
An unusual south-west view of the magical gothic revival folly - Castell Coch, which is shrouded in the dreamy woodland of Fforest Fawr, Tongwynlais. This oil on canvas painting captures the 'eccentric genius' of designer William Burges acting on the instructions of the fabulously wealthy 3rd Marquess of Bute - John Crichton-Stuart. Restoration from a dilapidated previous build began in 1875 and the castle has been the focus of many a TV programme together with featuring in period films and dramas.
