Ty Rhiw, Taff's Well - 'The 'New' Houses'

Medium: Watercolour on Paper          Ref: KWA02/WFG

This is an original watercolour painting of the so-called 'new houses' which were built in Ty Rhiw, Taff's Well. I moved into one of these houses with my mother, aunty, cousin, uncle and grandfather in 1968. It was a brand new house at that time and we were one of the first families to move into a house on the then unfinished council estate. The estate is in a rural situation. There is a stream with trout, a farm, woodland, a hill (the Graig Yr Alt), an old drift mine (Rockwood Colliery) and a cemetery nearby. This view is seen by anyone accessing the old 'Barry Line' (footpath - to the east of the estate). The Barry line was the railway line built to carry coal wagons from the Rhymney Valleys on to Barry Docks - over the Walnut Tree Viaduct.
